Gather information about your business

Make sure you have the following documents when you apply.

Proof of being operational by February 15, 2020

The best way to confirm this is with payroll records from a period that includes February 15, 2020. You may also be able to find this in a payroll summary.

Key business documents

Make sure you have a copy of your business’s articles of incorporation and W9 easily available.

Personal information about all major owners of your business

You’ll need to be able to provide key information about anyone that owns 20% or more of your business. You may be asked to provide a copy of government-issued ID (e.g., Driver’s license, passport) for each owner.

Payroll records

You will need payroll tax forms (940 and/or 941) from January 1, 2019 to the most recent filing date. Make sure you’re able to identify any employees paid over $100K per year.

Tax returns and financial statements

Try to have your business’s tax returns and financial statements for the last 2 years, if possible.

A system to manage expenses and finances

When you apply for loan forgiveness in the future, you’ll want to make sure you have proper documentation of the expenses you will pay during the eight week period after you receive an SBA PPP loan. Make sure you’re prepared to capture documents related to expenses, including payroll, rent, utilities, or any other critical expenses that may be eligible for forgiveness.
